Chelsea Detective is a British series that debuted in the UK in February 2022 and has been a huge hit with fans of the genre ever since. The story centers on detective Max Arnold (Adrian Scarborough), who lives on a houseboat, separated from his wife, travels everywhere by bicycle, and is tasked with solving crimes that take place in Chelsea, a posh London neighborhood. Max's partner is also an ordinary character, detective Priya Shamsie (Sonita Henry), who has returned from maternity leave.

The first two seasons, currently scheduled to air, will each cover four cases, spanning a total of 16 episodes. The show's creators have been careful to portray the district as it is, which is to say, very elegant and very English, but the end result is not a deadly serious series. The main character, Scarborough, has this to say about this:

"In the first season, we found a tone that we really liked, that we thought the audience would enjoy, and we didn't want it to be too dark. My character misses his wife terribly, and he wishes that the breakup was a much easier than it is, that he could just walk away and be happy again for everyone. But of course, he doesn't live in that emotional world, he's quite inexperienced in the world of marriage and long-term relationships."

Adrian Scarborough's name may be familiar to viewers from works such as The King's Speech and Gavin & Stacey. His co-star Sonita Henry was previously seen in the series Enemies or Doctor Who, as well as the cult sci-fi series The Fifth Element. When asked how Chelsea Crimes is different from other crime series, Henry replied: "In a typical crime series, the focus is on the detective work most of the time, and we don't learn much about the private lives of the detectives. What I liked about the scripts was that there were obviously murders, but they also built a pulsating, breathing, real world that I've never seen in a crime series before."

The first two episodes focus on the investigation into the death of a widowed stonemason, Andrew Knightley. The premiere will be on Saturday, February 1st at 3:55 PM on TV4, and the second episode will be aired on Sunday, also at 3:55 PM.
